The best 'copy cats' in Tollywood

When a filmmaker tries to copy or lift content from other films, he will be criticized if he fails to do justice to it. Copying is an art and one should be careful and very creative when it comes to 'stealing ideas'. If one manages to pull off a copy work in his own style, people don't bother about it much. Are there any such talented copy cats in Tollywood?

Take Rajamouli he is easily the best among the lot. Most of his films have scenes and situations inspired/copied from Hollywood or other foreign language films. Maryada Ramanna was a blatant copy of Our Hospitality. His recent blockbuster Eega has too many scenes inspired from Bee Movie.

Another best copy cat in Tollywood is Trivikram. There are too many scenes in Trivikram's films that are deliberately copied from English and other language films. He just adds his flavor of dialogues to make them appeal to our audiences. His recent hit Julayi too was heavily inspired from various Hollywood films. However, people don't care about all this stuff until they are entertained. So one has to know how to entertain audience no matter wherever his works are sourced from!

Best Director Of Decade: Puri Or Rajamouli?

A debate is going on in the film circles about who is the best director of the last decade, 2000-10. The two best contenders for the race are none other than Rajamouli and Puri Jagan. Let us see what people say!

Rajamouli is having an impeccable track record with no flops to his career in the eight films he made in that span. But, Puri directed 19 films in that span with many flops and hits. However people likes Puri Jagan as he makes movies on a quick note and enthrals everyone in the family.

Rajamouli's earlier films used to be one sided action entertainers that will be loved by youths who love pulsating flicks. When it comes to Puri, his stories are simple, characters are guy next door and dialogues are awesome, says an analyst. In the recently given Santosham Awards, Puri is adjudged the best director of the decade surpassing Rajamouli. However both the directors are Pride of Tollywood.

Rajamouli reacts on directing Rajnikanth & Surya

While gossipmongers are abuzz that ace director Rajamouli is in plans to direct a bilingual film in Telugu/Tamil versions with Surya in the lead role, the former has reacted on the news saying it is not finalized.

Media has reported that DVV Danayya might produce the film but Rajamouli has clarified the news saying, “Me and Suriya meet occasionally. Both of us are interested in working together. But there are numerous issues to be finalised before a film can be announced," said the Eega/Naan Ee director.

Rajamouli has also informed that he is not preparing any script to Rajinikanth’s film. “News about Rajinikanth garu asking me to prepare a story is completely false," said Rajamouli.

Rajamouli - Suriya movie on cards

SS Rajamouli had denied the rumor that he is asked by Rajnikant to prepare a script. Rajamouli has also said that he has met Suriya a couple of times regarding the possibility of making a movie together. But there are going to be many issues to be sorted out before going any further. Senior producer DVV Danayya is planning a movie in this combination.

Rajamouli’s first production venture Andala Rakshasi got released yesterday. He has bought 30% of share for this film a couple of weeks back from the producer Sai Korrapati.

Rajamouli's Helping Hand In Discussion

Rajamouli is not just the one who crafts films with excellence and mesmerizes audiences. He is also having a helping hand in him which most directors and producers of our industry lack. We are not talking about the thing that SS Rajamouli and his 'Eega' team donated lacs of rupees to a NGO recently. Other than that, Tollywood's Jakkanna is helping a director and producer to stand out on their legs in film industry.

They are producer Sai Korrapati and director Hanu Raghavapudi who recently came up with 'Andala Rakshasi'. Though SSR knows that the film lacks punch except visual brilliance, he took all the burden of promoting it on his shoulders. Insiders revealed that he liked the work of Hanu Raghavapudi a lot and feels that with a little bit of tweaking he will reach places. And coming to Sai Korrapati, though he fetched profits in 'Eega', Rajamouli wants him not to lose a single penny in 'Andala Rakshasi' too. Is this not an helping hand, which no other director has done so far?

Eega crosses Businessman collections !

For the first time in the 82 years of Telugu cinema history, a movie with an animal character as main lead had gone in to the Top10 biggest hits of Tollyood. The movie had managed to cross Mahesh Babu's Business Man which is currently fifth in the list. However, the movie's dream run is almost came to an end. The movie though opening to record collections worldwide doesn't look getting anywhere near the Rs 100 mark, as the theatre occupancies dipped since the third week onwards even though there are quite a few theatres that are running to packed houses in some centers. Three cheers to Rajamouli who achieved this rare feat with no star power and that too in an industry which is so star centric

Rajamouli turns Rakshasudu

Rajamouli became the star icon of Tollywood and the impact he created with his graphical wonder 'Eega' is unforgettable. Experiencing and enjoying his beautiful creation movie lovers started following his words as holy scriptures. When he became producer for the film 'Andala Rakshasi', people sat up at once and started following it closely and thronged theaters when it hit the screens today though the film is a product of debutantes. It did not take even a minutes to realise how mistaken they were in banking and coming to theaters on Rajamouli's words.

The film 'Andala Rakshasi' turned 'Torture Rakshasi' which movie lovers having no space to hide. Only relief for them are the songs, beautiful picturesque locations. The comments from fellow viewers provided them comic relief than the comedy track of the film. Even frequent smokers were aghast at the continuous smoking and drinking of hero Gautam (Rahul Ravindran) and were heard commenting that the hero looked like a chain smoker than a star. Many were at their wits end unable to make head or tail of the film for the first half an hour of the film.

Movie lovers wondered how could Rajamouli fell in love with 'Andala Rakshasi' and turn Rakshasudu to torture to movie lovers. Some even questioned what appealed to Rajamouli that did not appear to them. All in all entire 'Eega' memories are erased by 'Andala Rakshasi'.

Benchmark for a Tollywood Super Hit

In Bollywood collecting a gross collection of 100 crore in India has turned out to be the benchmark for a successful film. All the stars are aiming to reach that hundred crore mark with every film and we are witnessing more and more in the club in recent times. Likewise our Tollywood too has a benchmark for a super hit film.

Gone are the days where number of centers that the movie runs for fifty or hundred days used to be the true scale to measure a movie's success. Only number that matters now is how much share a movie collects. Tollywood has witnessed a string of super hits in less than a year's time and as per the statistics any movie that collects a share over forty crore can be termed as a super hit.

Businessman, Racha and Eega collected over forty crores share this year and Gabbar Singh went on to cross 60 crore rupees share. Gabbar Singh and Dookudu (55 crores share) were blockbusters as they went an extra mile and made it to 60 and 50 crores clubs respectively. 30 crores share used to be the benchmark for a Telugu film in the past. Now our super hits are crossing that mark in our state alone. Tollywood is shining and how?

Eega Makes it to Top 5

Eega is now one of the biggest hits in the history of Telugu cinema. The business of this film has almost come to a close in all the territories. It is still drawing good numbers in Hyderabad and few other cities in the weekends. With Julayi releasing this week, Eega wouldn't enjoy that status too. The film has collected a share of over 30 crores in Andhra Pradesh alone.

The total share of this film (Telugu version) is around 42 crore and it may add few more lakhs to the final tally. The Tamil version of this film has collected a gross of more than 15 crores, which is a record for the movie directed by a Telugu director. Keeping the share that Naan Ee gets in Tamilnadu aside, Eega stands at top 5 spot in all time list of Tollywood now.

It has replaced Businessman to take the fifth position in the elite list. Right now the top movies (Telugu versions alone) in Tollywood are Magadheera, Gabbar Singh, Dookudu, Racha and Eega. If Tamil and Malayalm version shares are included for Racha and Eega, then they will switch places among the list. The top 3 will be unmoved. If Tamil and Malayalam shares are added to Magadheera it goes further up. Now Rajamouli and Ram Charan have two films each in this list. No wonder that their combined effort occupied the top spot!
